Modular 6

This module has helped me think about self-directed learners and the role of differentiation in the following ways….

It has reinforced that feeling that I need to give up some more control in my classroom. My students are capable of making good choices and being responsible for some of their own learning. I am going to be able to provide guidelines for my students and then allow them to create projects that they want to do. This gives the students some freedom yet still gives them guidelines that they have to follow. :) I actually have used some of the websites in the last few weeks in the classroom. My class has done research on people who have made contributions during the Civil War. Although I provided the final project guidelines, students were able to explore and do their own research..... baby steps..... :)

Modular 4

How can technology be used most effectively to support and assess student learning?

Technology can be used in several ways in the classroom to support and assess student learning. Students can use technology to create various projects from the information they have gathered and researched. They can put together videos, blogs, cartoon strips, timelines, etc. They can also use the technology to create rubrics for themselves as well as assessments. Teachers can use the technology to create online assessments that students can take. Not only do the students use technology while taking them but it is a much faster way for the teacher to assess the students.

Modular 5

This module has helped me think about student-centered assessment in the following ways….

I have never really thought about having students create their own assessments or their own rubrics and I have found that this would be a great way to get the students involved in their own learning. It holds them accountable for the things they are learning as well as allows them to take ownership in their learning. I also think the peer evaluations and self reflections are a great tool for holding students accountable for their work.
I am very excited to begin trying these things in my classroom; however, I am also feeling EXTREMELY overwhelmed and out of my element with it all. I hope I will be able to implement these things in my classroom. :)
